2018 CoachMarque conference makes an impact

The annual CoachMarque conference was held on Monday 8th January at the Radisson Blu hotel, East Midlands Airport with 70 CPT operators and suppliers attending. The theme this year was ‘Improving The Customer Experience’ through driver welfare and luxury travel.

Starting the day Gallagher insurance brokers and Unicorn underwriting reported that coach operators could expect to see a rise in their premiums of between 10-20% this year following a rule change. This will increase the amount of compensation eligible for people left with severe injuries following a road accident. Not the best of news to start the day for operators but important to plan ahead.

The next presentation was from Raquel Morcillo, the full time administrator for the Global Passenger Network (GPN). Raquel explained that being a CoachMarque member automatically included membership of GPN and therefore benefitted from emergency contacts abroad, additional sales revenue from overseas customers and increased marketing. Richard Oxspring from Skills Coaches then spoke about the future of luxury coach tours and his experience with Leger’s Silver Service and Luxuria brands.

After the break, as is customary at the CoachMarque conference, the attendees heard from two professional speakers, Michelle Chester from Koru Clinic and Nigel Risner. Both presentations were interactive and thought provoking with Nigel Risner causing quite an impact with his talk on motivating employees. Michelle covered the important subject of nutrition and it subsequent effect on driver fatigue and was a presentation many attendees felt useful.

During lunch, Irizar UK brought along the UK's first hybrid coach, the Irizar i4H integral, for attendees to view.

Closing the day Distinctive Systems gave an exclusive update on its developments to be released in 2018, rounding off a day that left attendees inspired and informed for the year ahead.
